Green People Scent Free Sun Lotion for Sensitive Skin & Rosacea – REVIEW

scent free sun cream rosacea

Please Note, this review is for a Factor 25 suncream, Green People no longer do this factor instead they do 15 or 30

Finding sun lotion for my rosacea skin has been such a trial in the past. I have tried many different types, from natural sun lotions to more chemical rich lotions meant for sensitive skin, and most of them cause further flair ups and increase my sensitivity. Generally when I go into the sun, if I sunbathe, my skin goes red almost immediately. I get this sore burning feeling and people often comment ‘Oh Kelly you are really sunburnt’, when I may have been sitting there 5-10 minutes. So to find a sun lotion that works for rosacea and sensitive skin is amazing for me.

After some intensive research on-line I came across a 25 SPF Sun Lotion for sensitive skin by the Green People. I read up the ingredients on-line and discovered the ingredients are highly recommended for soothing rosacea anyway, so I felt this was worth a shot and boy was I not disappointed.

About Green People

Green People was set up with a great motivational factor, to help the pioneer Charlotte soothe and treat her daughters allergies and eczema, so ‘Green People’ really is a company that wants to help people like me who have sensitive skin like that of rosacea.

With their great promise to never use aggressive ingredients or synthetic chemicals like sodium lauryl sulphate, parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, alcohol or synthetic fragrances, ‘Green People’ sets itself apart from the companies who leave ethics by the wayside.

Charlotte also helped set the Soil Association standards for organic health and beauty products. For example I did not know this, but the term ‘natural’ can be used even if companies only use 1% natural ingredients in their products, well this is not natural to me.

So their products are packed with over 90% active natural and organic ingredients to protect, nourish, balance and, most importantly, respect your body.

A big win in my eyes.

‘Green People’ Scent Free Sun Lotion For Sensitive Skin (SPF 25 – 200ml)

This past week I got to try out Green People’s Scent Free Sun Lotion for Sensitive Skin and was utterly surprised by my experience.

Opening the package I first noticed on the outside of the tube a logo for the Marine Conservation Trust and checking out the site I discovered a 30p donation goes to them with every sale of this sun lotion. This is not something you see on ordinary sun lotions and I love this about Green People, that they give back. The Marine Conservation Trust works to secure a future for our living seas, and  do what they can to save threatened sea life before it is lost forever.

Before going out into the sun I checked my skin. It was still red and the rosacea visible, so I applied a light coating of the sun lotion. I was expecting it to be thick and make me look like a white ghost like I have experienced in the past with ‘natural’ sun creams, but this did not happen with the Green People’s Scent Free lotion. I did not need a lot and it absorbed really rapidly into the skin. My skin was not oily which was amazing.

No scent made it appealing to me because I can never know whether scent will affect my skin and also I do not want to attract bees and wasps when out in the sun either.

So I sat outside in the sun for 2 hours! Yes that’s right, 2 hours. I normally have to put a hat on within 30 minutes because of the increasing soreness and redness. So I happily read my book and by 3pm (yes I was a tad naughty, out in the midday sun – slaps hand!), I went indoors. And I could not believe what I saw in the mirror.

No redness.

Not only no redness I had a redness reduction. I was less red than when I went out. How could this be? Amazed to say the least, my house-mate said to me ‘Hey Kelly you should wear that indoors’ (grin), which I am not going to, but I understand his reasoning.

The ingredients in the scent free organic and natural sun lotion are as follows:

AQUA (SPRING WATER), ISOAMYL P-METHOXYCINNAMATE (NATURALLY OCCURRING UV-FILTER), HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL*, OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) FRUIT OIL*, TITANIUM DIOXIDE [NANO] (MINERAL UV-FILTER), CETEARYL ALCOHOL (EMULSIFYING PLANT WAX), ELAEIS GUINEENSIS (PALM) OIL*^, CETEARYL GLUCOSIDE (PLANT DERIVED EMULSIFIER), GLYCERYL STEARATE (PLANT DERIVED EMULSIFIER), CERA ALBA (BEESWAX)*, ALOE BARBADENSIS (ALOE VERA) LEAF JUICE POWDER*, CHAMOMILLA RECUTITA (CHAMOMILE) FLOWER EXTRACT*, ALTHAEA OFFICINALIS (MARSHMALLOW) ROOT EXTRACT*, CAMELLIA SINENSIS (GREEN TEA) LEAF EXTRACT*, LEONTOPODIUM ALPINUM (EDELWEISS) LEAF EXTRACT*, PERSEA GRATISSIMA (AVOCADO) OIL*, COMMIPHORA MYRRHA (MYRRH) OIL^, ROSMARINUS OFFICINALIS (ROSEMARY) LEAF EXTRACT*, SODIUM STEAROYL GLUTAMATE (PLANT DERIVED EMULSIFIER), BENZYL ALCOHOL, SORBIC ACID, GLYCERIN (VEGETABLE DERIVED), SALICYLIC ACID, CITRIC ACID. *82.2% ORGANIC, ^FAIRLY TRADED

Now as you can see there are some wonderfully nourishing, soothing and fantastic ingredients in this sun lotion and I had read some time back that Titanium Dioxide can help with rosacea skin and it seems to be helping mine. But as always do a skin test as everyone is different.

Overall Experience With Green People Scent Free Sun Lotion (SPF25)

Hallelujah! Is one word to describe my experience with this lotion.

And no, I am not on commission. I like to be honest in all my reviews and to find a lotion that enables me to sit in the sun without having people say  I am burnt is a godsend. The ease at which it absorbs into the skin also means applying my mineral make-up really effortless so sun protection when out and about too.

PROS

What I like about this lotion the most:

Dries immediately.

No lotion melting into my eyes when my face got hot.

No white face – it was absorbed well.

My skin was less red than before I actually sat in the garden.

Need little.

Ethical company supporting the Marine Conservation Trust.

No nasty ingredients that can cause further flair-ups.

My skin felt visibly better after using this product.

Great size tube and perfect shape for popping in my handbag.

Makes me want to look into more ‘Green People’ products.

CONS

The only con I found was the cost (at time of posting £18.95 but there is a buy 1 get 1 half price right now – June 2014). Yes it is quite pricey as sun lotions go and being on a budget  it is a lot for me, however… I cannot fault this lotion and would splash out for this in the future because it helped me so much. In the past I may have bought several different lotions to try them out so the combined cost may have reached the price of this one lotion anyway so its a win-win really. You can get smaller sizes too.
