PODCAST: Can The Pain Of Depression Be A Gift?

Podcast can the pain of depression be a gift

“If you’ve never experienced it, is an extremely painful experience. It feels very heavy very dense. It’s like every single trigger of life comes back to haunt you. It’s when your inner voice is primarily negative and it’s when we generally focus on what is wrong in our life and the world. It’s really hard when you’ve got depression to actually see the positive – and see the blessings OR to have gratitude for life”

– Kelly Martin

Depression can feel like a never ending spiral down the rabbit hole. Often we can feel there is no way out and it will never end. I found this in my recent bout of depression and it took me to a very dark place.

In this podcast I talk about my recent experience of depression where I considered suicide, but after asking some deep questions I discovered the gifts in depression that moved me through that dark time.

If you have experienced depression a lot in your life and want a more positive experience of this painful time this podcast is for you.

Highlights from the episode:

  • How depression can be a route into deeper meaning in life
  • Why we lose sight of what brings us satisfaction
  • How the present moment is key for healing

QUOTES

“I think we’re bombarded with all lots of ‘shoulds’ and ‘ought to’s’ and we take it internally, we really internalise it. I think people who have experienced depression are very sensitive human beings and there’s a gift in that sensitivity, but it gets lost somewhere in the darkness and the heaviness of depression”

“We don’t need to push it away. I think the same thing with anxiety, we try and push the feelings away and resist them and by doing that we just solidify the feelings within us even more “

“I think depression is a real real deep trigger to stop focusing on the outside world and being validated by it and start to recognise that we have everything we need right now even if the mind says that we need X Y Z”
