I am a questioner by nature now but I wasn’t always. I used to be wildly fascinated by people’s spiritual experiences and anything outside the box. I took ‘a truth’, I didn’t question it much. I now question everything and I feel this is a very good thing; it’s very grounding.
Now, ‘The Law of Attraction’ is a huge thing right now. Books are filled with information on it, the internet is saturated with it on how we create our reality, from visualising, affirmations, gratitude lists, vision boards and much much more.
As some of you may know, I followed this path of thought for a fair few years and I was very determined and motivated by the Law of Attraction teachings (LOA). So much so that I left my last job with the strong feeling ‘I am going to travel the world and the resources will be there for me to do it.’ I faked it till I made it…
AHEM!
Well..I never made it, in that sense anyhow. 4 years later I am still here now. And the past 4 years have been AMAZING, not what I wanted, not what I had envisioned, and not what I had dreamed. But I know one thing: not getting what I wanted made me question my beliefs about the LOA.
Over the years I practised the LOA, I believed that I manifested:
- Parking spaces.
- My favourite seats in cafes.
- Money when our car broke down.
- A TV when the TV broke.
- A cooker when our cooker was falling apart.
- The money to visit my family up north.
- People.
- Prizes I won.
- Songs on the radio that matched my ‘vibration’ regarding my dreams of travelling to New Zealand.
- Conversations.
- Opportunities.
The list just goes on.
But did I really manifest all of this? Did the Law Of Attraction bring all of this to me?
Have you ever questioned your own beliefs about the LOA and creating your reality?
What Came First The Chicken Or The Egg?
I know a lot of people who believe they manifested ‘X,Y,Z’ and maybe they did.
OR maybe they didn’t, but the mind likes to feel in control and it’s a nice idea to hold onto.
Here is another possibility about this whole LOA discussion.
Now, if you believe in the LOA strongly, hold on a moment, and open to this idea for a moment. You can forget about it once you’ve finished reading, or not, it’s entirely up to you.
What if X,Y,Z manifested simply because:
a) You were ready for it.
b) It was time ‘aka perfect timing’ and
c) You affirming/visualising was simply a by-product of something that was already on the cards for you at this time?
What if life is naturally evolving and unfolding for you and your interest in the LOA was something your logical mind needed to grab onto to give you some sense of control over your life?
And so the money arriving, the partner, the car parking space, was going to show up at that time anyway, regardless of any LOA techniques.
Now, if affirming, visualising, vision boards etc. make you feel good and your not using them to get something, that’s fine, go ahead.
But, what if ‘surrendering’ to your own natural flow, where the mind doesn’t use tools or techniques to control the direction of the boat you’re in, where this natural flow takes you to the shore you desire all along? OR to the shore that gives you far greater growth and expansion than your mind and ego-desires could ever bring you. Would you be open to that
The emphasis here is everything you ‘NEED’; this does not necessarily mean everything you want. Wanting is the ego’s desires. Need is what is for your greatest growth and evolution. You could need a challenge or a blessing, as the outcome from receiving that need could be far reaching, in comparison to your human want.
Humans Like To Feel In Control
In the East, many traditions and philosophies don’t use the LOA tools that many use. They trust and embody the present moment. They know life guides us and directs us, through intuitive awareness, not through conscious thinking. Whereas in the West our over-used western mind, where we think too much, need techniques or tools to feel better about directing life. But in essence we never had control. We are in the flow of life’s powerful, ever unfolding current, and our conscious mind has little knowledge of this.
Chicken And The Egg Again
So which came first, the chicken or the egg?
The Law of Attraction techniques or the manifested outcome?

I particularly like point c where you say 'You affirming/visualising was a by product of something that was already on the cards for you at this time'. I am definitely tending more towards the 'letting life unfold naturally' viewpoint. Of course, it's important to take action sometimes, but take it from the place of surrender and non-attachment, and see what happens. Excellent post and written in a way that makes it easy to understand.
Totally Andy, we naturally take action moment-by-moment as we surrender and let life unfold. No need to force or try to make anything happen. Thanks for commenting.
Ah! The causality dilemma. Sooner or later we all give up and surrender to the futility of identifying the first case of a circular cause. Of course to those who have read genesis 1:21…"And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and EVERY WINGED FOWL after his kind:" It becomes easy to decide.
Yes very true, God, source, universe, whatever label anyone gives is the first cause. Thanks for commenting.
