Celebrating me! We all deserve to celebrate who we are. |
So Valentine’s Day is coming up, or to many singles the dreaded day we are reminded that we are single.
But I say NO!
I will not be made to feel inadequate on this day of love, so 2 years ago I began celebrating something called :
INTERNATIONAL QUIRKY ALONE DAY!
Quirky Alone Day (or as my friends thought a day I simply made up – wide grin!), is an actual day designated to love, but not in the usual sense of the word, as often portrayed around Valentine’s Day.
Quirky Alone Day is a day where singles unite as one in their celebration of self-love, taking ourselves out on dates, celebrating with other single girlfriends or male friends and for couples to relish this day for what it truly means.
International Quirkyalone Day is a do-it-yourself celebration of romance, friendship, and independent spirit. It’s a celebration of all kinds of love: romantic, platonic, familial, and yes, self-love. International Quirkyalone Day is not anti-Valentine’s Day. It’s NOT a pity party for single people. It’s an alternative–a feel-good alternative to the marketing barrage of Valentine’s Day ~ quirkyalone.net
If you are single it’s a huge encouragement to see what possibilities are available to single people today. Just because you’re single does not mean you need to date for the sake of dating, but that you’re happy to be single but not opposed to being in a relationship either.
If you’re in a couple it’s a special day for you to acknowledge your own individuality. Two halves do not make a whole, two whole people make a sublime and beautiful relationship.
On the Quirkyalone site online they help you to plan your own Quirky Alone Day. And some of the ideas they give are:
- Throw a dinner party.
- Buy yourself new underwear
- Rearrange your furniture
- Take a long walk without your cell phone
- Explore a new part of town,
- Organize a card-making party
- Try a new recipe
- Join or host a Quirkyalone party.
- Buy yourself flowers or have them delivered to your home on Quirky Alone Day (Feb. 14th).
“Florverde farms use sustainable resources; aim to reduce their water consumption and air emissions, use organic fertilization methods and dispose of their waste using environmentally sound methods. None of our Colombian partners hire workers under the age of 18 and they are paid 20% more than the minimum wage.” ~ Bunches.co.uk
Fair Flowers – Fair Plants
Bunches only works with producers and suppliers that are part of the Fair Flowers Fair Plants (FFP) initiative.
The FFP monitors ethical standards throughout the flower production cycle, reducing the impact on the environment and providing good working conditions. A large number of organisations within the flower industry, human rights groups and trade unions also support the FFP label. ~ Bunches.co.uk
They came in a beautiful box and removing them was easy. The bouquet came with its own water reservoir to keep the flowers fresh in transit and also gave me time to do a few things around my flat before preparing them for display.
The colours of the Spring Charms Bouquet from Bunches were so feminine, so bright and colourful. It was great to receive something that did not remind me of the traditional Valentine’s Red roses, and as much as I like red roses I am more a white, yellow or pink roses gal.
All in all I cannot say anything bad about Bunches. I love that they are a family run company still; I love that they have many of their workers working for them who have been with them a long time and I love that they saw an opening in the market for boxed flowers and were the first company to add chocolates with flowers.
Free Delivery/Free Chocolates & Customer Reward Scheme
They also, on their site, offer free delivery and free chocolates with every on-line order, so to me they are company I would go to when ordering flowers on-line. And Bunches are the only mail order florist which offers a loyalty scheme in the form of ‘Posy Points’, which enables customers to earn points with every purchase.
So to me, they go the extra mile.
It was great to do this review and introduce you to Quirky Alone Day and a big thanks to bunches.co.uk for being a willing participant in this alternative day.

We'll be having a very romantic February 14th – battling our way home along the M6 after an exhausting week at my Mum's, shoving all our smoke-infused clothes into the washing machine and collapsing into bed
Nothing romantic but we always send one another a card after being married 27 yrs & maybe some chocs. The last time hubby sent me flowers was a disaster. He ordered some to be delivered to school (where I work) insisting that they be delivered before I leave at 1pm. Then nearer the day he realised I was on holiday for half term so had to ask for them to be delivered to home. We then spent all day waiting in as they arrived late in the day so we couldn't go out (My youngster kept saying "are they here yet" whenever he heard a car. – so no surprises there! Since then he's never bothered!!
I'll be working in the evening until 9.30 then home for a cup of tea (which I'll have to make) so no romance on the cards for me but then then never has been!
I'll be alone but I'll definitely be celebrating Quirky Alone Day so thank you for making me feel better about an otherwise lonely day :).
It will be me and my girlfriends first Valentines day together so i want to do something special, we got our first house together a month ago, so money is quite tight at the moment but i plan to still make it special for her, Im cooking a meal and putting out loads of candles, Im going to have a bubble bath ready for her when she gets home, and also get a few of her favourite films. 🙂
I'll cook a special meal at home for me and my husband.
Hazel Rea – @beachrambler
A nice intimate dinner for two with a bottle of sparkling rose,
We'll be at home, and probably just exchange cards.
At home alone, good food and TV
At home, drinking wine and reading blogs like most nights xx
I will celebrate Quirky Alone Day by buying myself some new music, DVD & A Takeaway. Because I'm worth it
As a couple and my partner is making me a romantic dinner!
As a couple! Will be cooking a romantic dinner at home
a nice meal and dvd with the other half
My husband is cooking!
We will just celebrate at home with a nice meal with our son
My husband works nights so we rarely celebrate and we hate the commercial hype surrounding valentines day. We will most likely go for a posh coffee (a rare treat) whilst our daughter is at school and the two little boys I look after are at pre school. The in the evening he will cook us both a a nice dinner before he goes to work 🙂
At home, a nice meal, lots of choccies and a rom com!! My husband will cook, so lovely for me.
OH is working from 4am till 7pm so he'll want his tea and then bed lol…I'll have a cuddle later 😉
My daughters will be at my Mother in laws and I will make my husband a lovely meal and we'll share a lovely bottle of Merlot
This will be my second Feb. 14th with my boyfriend and, after taking our lizard to the vets, will probably just mooch, watch films and snuggle. Same as always really.
I'm going to cook a romantic meal at home and then we'll probably snuggle up on the sofa to watch a film.
I'll be with my husband. We will have a couple of glasses of wine in front of a lovely roaring fire. I will also cook a special lamb curry.
I'll be alone…might treat myself to a couple of glasses of wine, a box of chocolates and some flowers. 🙂
im alone so itll be watching what i want on tv some chocolate and a nice big bed all to myself bar the dog!
we will be travelling home from my daughters graduation so valentines is off this year 🙂

with my boyfriend
Single and working on Valentines Day – these flowers would definitely brighten up my day!

i will be working but hopefully having a late meal with my girlfriend
I'll be going to the local pub for a late supper and some drinks with my single friends

I'll be with my husband but I'll celebrate Quirky Alone Day with my mum instead.

Hopefully going for a meal with my dearest other half
i will celebrate with hubby in our local american diner 🙂
I always do a nice meal at home and send the kids off to bed early!
With my girlfriend!

Last year I had an evening of pink fizz, scented candles and some horror films….how to top that?
TBH it normally just passes me by, but why not celebrate yourself, eh? I think some pampering will be the ticket for me.
I don't have a valentine so quirky alone day is perfect for me
We don't usually make a big deal on Valentines day as there are other celebrations close to it.
I tend to cook something special or call for a takeaway and open a nice bottle of wine.
Lovely competition x
With my lovely quirky friends x
a nice meal!
With my single friends, dinner and a movie 🙂 x
I may not have a partner, but living with my daughter, her partner and two children I won't be alone.
I'll celebrate singularly by treating myself to wine and chocolates.
I'm not single, but my Hubby is working and so I shall buy myself a magazine and some posh bath oil to luxuriate in!
Over coffee as we are working nights
We will probably have a night in, order a take away and grab a movie 🙂 x
cozy night in – film and takeaway perhaps
its my birthday so my husband will cook at home so as not to have the day overtaken by couples
With a take away and a bottle of wine. xx
with hubby and a nice meal at home
I may make a tasty lasagne
Dinner and champers at home
alone
Cards, cuddle up on sofa.
Homemade steak & chips & a bottle of wine
Although I am not single I doubt my OH will make any special effort. 🙁
Excellent idea! My boyfriend will be working the whole weekend as it is a very busy time for him (in the restaurant business) so i think i shall practice some self love and treat myself to a day off from housework and a long soak in the bath
Ah…celebrating with my other half and a bottle of wine and a snuggle:)
with the boyfriend
Not thought of anything yet.
A takeaway with the boyfriend
Alone ……but with chocolate!
with my parnter a meal out when the kids are at school
i will be with my partner but we dont celebrate it as he thinks it isnt fair that i get him something but he cant get me anything as he doesnt get paid til the day after! (15th of each month) so we have just give up on it
Wow beautiful
We will probably just get some food in, as we have a little excitable 22 month old! We will probably go for some noms the next day though 🙂
in a couple probably some nice food and a bottle of wine
Hard being on my own with my sons since my late partner died sudden three years ago lads fine it difficult as well as me miss my late partner so much as he was a brilliant person with a great sense of humour and always romantic would always get me flowers and write his own poems and even sing to me so will be celebrating quirky and alone.

I'll be with my husband, and we will be taking a nice long walk together (without phones!)
Nothing planned yet, but I'm sure it'll be spontaneous and lovely! 🙂 x
Apparently this year I'm getting a surprise 🙂 very much looking forward to it x
I'm getting a surprise outing !!
I would like to appreciate the effort made by the vendor for delivery of Flowers on the occasion of my
friend’s marriage. I will recommend the websitehttp://www.flowersonlinedelivery.co.uk for giving good
vendor for getting my friends happy. My good wishes to http://www.flowersonlinedelivery.co.uk.
Cheers!!!!
together but nothing special, maybe a good bottle of merlot?
I'm with someone who thinks that its all a big waste of money and if I want something I have to buy it myself!!!!!
I have never really been single for long, but when I was I did enjoy it, what I would do if I had the opportunity again, buy lots of high calorie food like ben n jerrys mmmm, sit in my pjs and do nothing, play the laptop and watch tv etc… but not talk to anyone, just enjoy being by myself.
Do something creative
By chopping a tree down – don't ask! Followed by much wine.
We have nothing planned, so boring we are
We've nothing planned but with 4 children i'm sure we won't be bored
Nothing much, maybe watch a film & order a takeaway once we've put our little girl to bed.
Nothing planned, my husband won't be home until late. We have never really made a big deal about Valentine's Day as it's too commercialised now.
Ill be with my husband just doing a normal day, we dont do valentines day anyway as I find it a bit of a waste of money tbh. We tell each other and show each other how we feel everyday so dont need Clintons to sell us overpriced cards to do the same thing.
I think I'll like to spend quirky alone day wrapped up in a duvet reading a book all day!
I think I will celebrate by going for a pizza and a movie with my best friend 🙂
Nothing planned,I'll be a work,so just an ordinary day
We are getting a chinese. I will probably send a good friend some flowers
We don't have anything planned but hopefully he will surprise me
we dont have anything planned
i'm going on a second date on valentines night for a meal 🙂
I wont be alone but its a fab day. We dont have anything planned
We're both working all day on Valentines but will make up for it the following weekend by going for a walk along the beach and having a nice bottle of wine in a nearby hotel that has an open fire to sit in front of.
probably a film on the sofa and a cuddle with my hubby 🙂
i think we will stay in with a takeaway!
No clue, husband will be about but ferrying kiddies back and forth. Hopefully we'll fit in a takeaway and a bottle of wine. 🙂
My husband doesnt bother with vanentines day he said to me a few years ago 'I will buy you some flowers when you deserve them' how cheeky?
a nice meal just not decided where yet x
nothing special planned
Meal with my partner on a budget!!
We will have a meal at home a few bottles of wine and a good film. We have 4 kids so going out isn't really an option 🙂
A nice meal at home with a good film and a bottle of wine!
Single and will probably be having an early night 🙁
I will be celebrating and this year I'm not really bothered about being alone x
no doubt it will be like a normal day we have four kids and just enough money to get threw the week.
valentines is also my birthday so myself and the family eill probably go for a meal
We have so many family birthdays in February that we are inclined to just stay in on Valentine's Day and this is quite a treat for us!
as a couple with my husband
im in a relationshiop but we dont tend to make a fuss over valentines day!
Both me and my partner will be working so maybe a film if we have time
im in a relationshiop but we dont tend to make a big deal over valentines day, we make a little time for each other every day
A romantic meal for two
A homemade meal after work then a few drinks – glad it's on a Friday this year 🙂
With my dogs on the sofa with a take away… oh wait, that's just every Friday night for me 😛
We dont generally do much to be honest! Maybe a nice dinner once little girl is in bed!
We'll just be spending time together as a family 🙂
snuggles on the sofa
I might have some wine and treat myself to a new book 😀
prob take child to athletics training and then pop into a beefeater on way homefor something to eat x
Nothing now as I have to work, so an exchange of cards only this time
Long hot bath and some quiet time with a good book
Nothing planned so far, don't usually do a lot for valentines day x
We've nothing planned, will probably have a nice meal at home.
We will spend it with the little ones. Using our babysitters for the week before as it is our wedding anniversary
So pretty!
love flower great to make you smile 🙂
I will be with my husband having a romantic night with a takeaway Indian and a romantic movie.
I will be alone, so I might just do an anti-Valentine's day, by watching horror films and eating lots of garlic bread and Frazzles!
This is a great idea and giveaway for people like me who don't have a partner, Thankyou. I would like to spend Quirky alone day pampering myself and then meet up with a friend who is also single to remind ourselves that we have friends or/and family that love us just the way we are and we don't need a partner to complete us 🙂
My other half will be working so I will be spending the evening with my 4 boys and my dog watching Finding Nemo while having coke floats… bliss!
Probably celebrate with a nice meal out Thanks 🙂
We'll probably have tea after the kids are in bed, but that's our normal Friday treat.
Single so won't be celebrating :'( x
Me and my family will be travelling down south to see relatives, so our evening will be spent in the car.
A nice thai meal in front of a film!
Once kids are in bed mind!

The hubby will probably cook me a nice steak dinner once the kids are tucked up in bed.

Will just be alone…….with my multiple cats lol!. Dxx
