Review: Thich Nhat Hanh 2014 Diary from Vision Antics (Competition Ended)

At Christmas, receiving a beautiful diary or calendar is part of preparing for the new year. I feel that a diary must not only be useful but inspire me into new beginnings and bless my coming year. I like reminders of the best way to live my life, and if life gets a bit hectic or stressful, organising my time with words from a great spiritual teacher can make a big difference to my day.

This year I received a beautiful diary from a company called VISION ANTICS. I have seen many of Vision Antics diaries and products in various metaphysical stores and other book shops. I always felt uplifted by the beautiful artwork and inspiring and uplifting messages their products share. Vision Antics works with a range of artists who design beautiful covers and inserts for diaries, calendars, cards and journals, some of the best spiritual and metaphysical artists out there.
VISION ANTICS:  Vision Antics began its life a quarter of a century ago as a distributor of glass plate holograms, creator of prismatic-foil jewellery and agency for the growing new wave of art cards especially those supporting organisations promoting environmental and social awareness like Greenpeace and Amnesty International.
Their fascination with three dimensional images evolved in the 1990’s through the development of cards by innovative British Artists working in box- art , multi-media, collage and occasionally traditional forms through to realising their role of bringing reflective, dynamic and beautiful work from a diversity of world cultures, nature, art, religion and literature and more.

Vision Antics also sells products by Amber Lotus that feature products which illuminate the diverse manifestations of Spirit in the world; products that focus on the diversity of world cultures, the beauty of the natural world, fantastic science as art, and art inspired by sacred traditions. Amber Lotus donates a portion of the proceeds from sales of specific products to non-profit organisations like the Tibetan Lama Fund, which is building housing for refugee monks in India.

Included in their range of products is also BRUSH DANCE and others.

The line of BRUSH DANCE products is inspired by the movement of a brush, the interplay of art and words, the dance of ink and paper, the dance of combining words, ideas and values.

What Is The Diary Like?

As some of you who read my blog may know, I love the teachings of  Vietnamese Buddhist monk, poet and activist Thich Nhat Hanh who reminds us how to find and make peace. He simplifies ways to be mindful and to allow life to flow through you in a more fluid and graceful way. He teaches great compassion and love and the diary I have for 2014 includes many of his simple yet beautiful teachings along with fabulous artwork by Adam Guan.

The reflective art adorning the front cover really uplifts me along with the opening message :

“You are not an observer you are a participant” ~Thich Nhat Hanh

A helpful reminder to live life moment-by-moment, and to allow simply being to enrich your experience of life.

This diary is a good size, not too large for my needs at 6.5″ x 8.5″, with a lovely hard cover and it’s ring bound which makes it easy to open and keeps the pages in great condition. With 52 pages, with each month separated into weeks, you have just the right amount of space to make plans and notes, with a short note section at the beginning of each month and pages at the back of each month to add extra notes. Each month is separated by beautiful tabbed dividers and inspirational quotes. The tabs are really great for getting to the month I need quickly and efficiently.

I like that I am able to see the month ahead before the weekly diary begins for each section. That way I can pencil in really important dates, and each month includes the full moon and new moon, important dates around the world and also the related flower and gemstone for each month, so a perfect reminder if you are looking for birthday specific gifts. You also have an additional notes section at the beginning of each month’s section to add any further important information you may need reminding of, like dentist appointments etc.

At the back is the address section with 6 double sided pages with room to fill in the name, address, phone number (work and home), mobile/cell, email and fax number of any of your contacts.

At the front of the diary is a pocket for keeping anything you need with you (tickets, receipts etc).  All of this is kept together by an elastic closure which I always find useful if I have any extra notes I may want to add into the diary but not write inside.

Overall this diary is visually stunning, clear to read and use, inspiring, and well designed and made.

Most often we say World Peace, Happiness is likely to include this :- for Happiness is peace and contentment not conflict.
